What a relief, University of Kansas headed to the National Championship with an 84-66 win over University of North Carolina.

With Bill Self replacing Roy Williams, Kansas has moved within a win of their first National Championship since the 1988 win over Oklahoma. The unranked Kansas team who had 11 losses that season beat third-ranked Oklahoma, 83-79 in 1988.

North Carolina's Hansbrough, national player of the year, finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds, while Ellington led scoring with 18 pts. Jayhawks made 12 of their first 16 shots and went 18-0 for a 33-10 lead. UNC went 9:03 without a basket and Kansas led 40-12 with UNC on the run to score more points.

Let’s recap:

Brandon Rush played 32 minutes and led scoring with 25 pts. Mario Chalmers scored 11 pts and Darnell Jackson put 12 pts up on the score board. With 9 blocked shots and 10 steals for KU, the game was lost early for the UNC Tar Heels.

With 3 blocked shots, 7 steals and 18 turnovers UNC just couldn’t pull it off. In the midst of 7:53 left in the second half UNC was on a roll and came within 5 pts of Kansas’ 58-53 lead.

At the end of the day No.1 UNC lost to No.1 KU.

Now, UNC is headed back to North Carolina and KU is on their way to the National Championship to face Memphis in San Antonio, TX.
