Etienne Capoue has attracted a lot of attention over the last year. The persistent speculation over potential transfers has seen him linked with Arsenal (SkySports) among others.
The speculation seemed to have been put to rest when Capoue stated his desire to play for PSG (beIN Sport, h/t SkySports). However recent reports (per forzaitalianfootball.com) suggest that Inter Milan may be looking to steal Capoue away from PSG.
It is not a surprise for any team to be interested in Capoue. If Inter are serious and able to steer Capoue to Italy, it may provide a small amount of revenge for PSG's capture of Lucas Moura last summer. Moura was thought to be bound for Inter or Manchester United (per sambafoot.com) until PSG swooped in.
Capoue is considered one of the best young defensive midfielders in the game, and is a ready-made replacement for Thiago Motta.
Having a midfield that includes Marco Verratti, Blaise Matuidi and Capoue would give PSG great flexibility in matching up for any opponent.
All three are talented on the ball, and Matuidi and Capoue are excellent ball winners. Their ability to link up play between the defense and attack is also of great benefit.
Losing out on Capoue would be a tremendous hit to a team with legitimate Champions League title aspirations. Capoue is one of those pieces who can help PSG match up with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and the other top contenders.
The reports may be just rumors, but until Capoue officially signs for PSG, there must be some concern over the possibility of losing out on a player of his ability. PSG has the inside track, but must be weary of the other teams chasing.
