MMA fans can be forgiven if they feel like they are going through some type of withdrawal. After all, they are coming off a high of four UFC fight cards over four weekends in April.
Don’t worry, fight fans. Your fix is coming—it just won’t be coming this weekend.
The UFC will go a second consecutive week without a fight card this weekend, but will be back on May 18 when the promotion will present UFC on FX 8 from the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Headlining the card will be a middleweight contest between Vitor Belfort and Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold.
Belfort will enter the fight coming off a second-round TKO win over Michael Bisping in January of this year. For his part, Rockhold has not fought since July 2012, when he successfully defended his title via unanimous decision over Tim Kennedy. Injuries and the shuttering of the Strikeforce promotion have kept Rockhold out of the cage since that victory.
UFC flyweight Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall recently sat down with Rick J. Lee to break down the fight. Take some time to see what McCall has to say about the fight between Rockhold, a fighter McCall refers to as “a legitimate champion,” and Belfort—who McCall, with a smile, refers to as “rejuvenated.”
