Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel appeared on CNN this morning to react to the news that Sir Alex Ferguson will retire at the end of the season.

Schmeichel, who won five Premier League titles and was a pivotal part of the 1998-1999 Treble-winning team under Ferguson, said he was "sad" and "disappointed" to hear of Ferguson's decision.

He also suggested that something we don't yet know of might have played into Ferguson's retirement, which brings to an end his 27-year reign as United's most successful manager.
