Goalkeepers typically peak in their early 30s, which would suggest these three young bucks are going to be pretty special by the time the 2022 World Cup comes around.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen is a 21-year-old German international who plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga. He’s already been compared to his countrymen Oliver Kahn and Manuel Neuer and could soon be pushing the latter for his starting spot with the German national team.
David De Gea has had his doubters, but the 22-year-old proved his value to Manchester United on the way to their title success and was named in the Premier League team of the season.
Thibaut Courteous may well be joining De Gea in England’s top flight next season. Owned by Chelsea, the Belgian was loaned out to Atletico Madrid in Spain to continue his development. Many see him as the long-term replacement for Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge.
These are just three of many fine young goalkeepers in the game today. Please add your suggestions in the comments below.
