The Padres escaped the National League West basement Monday night as Andrew Cashner and Dale Thayer combined on a five-hit shutout. And very few people can honestly say they saw it. Cashner allowed four hits over 7 1/3 innings in the longest outing of his career, rookie second baseman Jedd Gyorko hit his second homer in as many days and Chase Headley extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games as the Padres defeated the Miami Marlins 5-0 before a turnout of 14,596 at Petco Park.
