Both Jake Shields and Tyron Woodley spent a big part of their careers fighting under the Strikeforce banner, but their paths never crossed while competing there.
Now with Strikeforce dead and gone, Shields will finally meet Woodley at UFC 161 in his return to the welterweight division after a brief stay at middleweight last year.
Admittedly, Shields was gunning for a top five welterweight opponent to get back into the title race but he drew Woodley instead. The 34-year-old isn't taking his opponent lightly however, but would like to make an example out of him on his path back to the top of the weight class.
"I feel like it's my time," Shields said in an interview with Bleacher Report. "I want to go out there and bring a lot of pressure and break him."
In this interview with Shields, he discusses his desire to get back to a title shot and how Woodley's ground game compares with his own.
