The Washington Capitals defeated the New York Rangers by a score of 1-0 in the first overtime period to take a 2-0 series lead in their best-of-seven quarterfinal series.

With no regulation goals, the two teams combined for 103 hits in regulation and 54 shots. Both goalies played well, but Henrink Lundqvist played better in regulation and got no offensive support from his team.

The Capitals had numerous chances in regulation to score, but they either fanned on the shots or were robbed by Lundqvist.

Lundqvist finished with 37 saves on 38 shots, but saw his Rangers generate just 24 shots on goal, being outshot 8-0 in overtime before Mike Green scored on a power-play goal exactly eight minutes into overtime.

Washington Capitals 1, New York Rangers 0. First overtime.
