Al Davis continues to bedevil long time fans as he steers this wayward ship known as the Oakland Raiders on a circuitous route that leaves them replete of talent. His drafting scheme this 2009 draft reminds one of the strategy he enlisted in the 1960s, a time of wide-open, unorthodox offensive schemes in the AFL.

Al might have had a touch of genius at that time but not now. Speed is important but hands and route running might be more tantamount to success.

His choice of Darrius Heyward-Bay, a speedy wide from Maryland, propogates what Al has preached for almost 50 years: stretch the field. But, does Heyward-Bay have the hands, the discipline to run the routes?

Mike Mitchell, their number two, another player with a need for speed is a nice pick from Ohio University as a strong safety, but a great pick in day two instead.

The Raiders have been horrific during a stanza that has relegated the squad to the tag of laughingstocks in the NFL during the past many campaigns.

Please Al, relinquish your vice-like grip on this team.
