The Thursday, May 2 edition of TNA Impact! Wrestling, which was taped from Indiana, Penn., opened with a video package recapping the latest events on the show.

Hulk Hogan came out first, followed by Sting. Hogan apologized to Sting for separating them with their disagreements. After offering to shake Sting's hand in a sign of unity, "The Icon" agreed to bury the hatchet and move forward.

Suddenly, Matt Morgan arrived to the ring. Hogan announced that Morgan will square off against Sting on Impact! Wrestling, with the winner being the new No. 1 contender for the TNA world heavyweight title.

A video package was shown of Chris Sabin's journey toward returning to TNA after suffering his second torn ACL. Backstage, Kurt Angle challenged any member of Aces and Eights to face him in the ring.

Match No. 1: Sonjay Dutt vs. Zema Ion vs. Chris Sabin

Your winner via pinfall: Chris Sabin. It was great to see Sabin return to TNA after two devastating injuries. Sabin looked strong in his return match and brings another important talent back to the X-Division. This match was a slight tease toward what the X-Division can bring in a more meaningful battle.

Match Rating: 3/5.

Bully Ray, who was backstage with the members of Aces and Eights, discussed the problems Angle has caused the group in recent weeks. D-Lo Brown stepped up to the plate and announced that he would take care of Angle in a match on Impact! Wrestling.

Match No. 2: Robbie E, Joey Ryan and Jesse vs. Rob Terry

Your winner via pinfall: Rob Terry. It appears Robbie E has found a new partner in Jesse to replace his former acquaintance, which was Terry. An uneventful match with an expected victory by Terry. TNA needs to do something better with Ryan, as his talents are being wasted at the moment.

Match Rating: 2/5.

Bobby Roode and Austin Aries came out and headed toward the ring. Roode admitted that Christopher Daniels and Kazarian played with his mind about reforming the Fortune group. Aries took the microphone next and said that Daniels and Kazarian know nothing about being tag team champions.

Daniels and Kazarian fired back, telling Roode and Aries that they cannot beat them. However, the TNA tag team champions Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez interrupted to announce that James Storm will be the special referee in next week's No. 1 contender's match for the tag team belts.

Match No. 3: D-Lo Brown vs. Kurt Angle

Your winner via submission: Kurt Angle. It was a better-than-expected I Quit match, as Brown had not been in action for quite a while.

Match Rating: 2.5/5.

After the match, Angle called AJ Styles to the ring. Angle told Styles that he must respond next week whether "The Phenomenal One" is with TNA or Aces and Eights.

Match No. 4: Gail Kim and Tara vs. Taryn Terrell and Mickie James

Your winners via pinfall: Taryn Terrell and Mickie James. This decent Knockouts tag team match led into the main event on Impact! Wrestling. Afterwards, Kim attacked Terrell in the ring. TNA appears to be continuing the Terrell and Kim feud.

Match Rating: 3/5.

Match No. 5: Matt Morgan vs. Sting

Your winner via submission: Sting. With the victory, Sting has become the new No. 1 contender for the TNA world heavyweight title. This was an interesting decision by TNA to pick Sting as the person to challenge Ray for his belt. Morgan could have been a better selection for this kind of match heading into the Slammiversary pay-per-view.

Match Rating: 3/5.
