16 Years Later, Wambach Ready to Suit Up for the Home Team

Sixteen years since the last time she did it for Our Lady of Mercy High School, Abby Wambach will play soccer on a field in Rochester for the true “home” team. Exactly 110 days since she became a member of the Western New York Flash, Wambach will make her home debut on Wednesday night at Sahlen's Stadium against Sky Blue FC. It was supposed to happen on Saturday, but the U.S. national team star was forced to sit out in a 2-1 loss to Boston. She was adhering to the National Women's Soccer League's protocol following a possible head injury in WNY's 1-1 tie at Washington on April 20. She was cleared to play Monday “Being here, playing in front of people who've followed my career for over 10 years now,” Wambach said last week, “this is for them,” said Wambach, who turns 33 next month. “This season and how ever many seasons I play for the Flash, we want to come out and play the game the way it should be played and entertain people in the seats so they keep coming back for more...
