PHOENIX -- Though manager Kirk Gibson described his club as having kept its head above water through the first month of the season, the truth of the matter is the Diamondbacks have done more than that. Fully healthy or missing key pieces, any team that wins 15 of its first 25 games is doing just fine. But the phrase seemed to describe what happened to right-hander Ian Kennedy in the opener of a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants on Monday night at Chase Field. Pitching himself into trouble in the early innings, Kennedy kept the damage to a relative minimum and bought his offense time to rally.
