Toledo Mud Hens Will Wear Chewbacca Uniforms to Honor Wookies Worldwide
The force will most definitely be with the Toledo Mud Hens when they don special Chewbacca uniforms during games honoring the excellence that is the Star Wars franchise.
Fire up your lightsaber and dress up in your favorite Star Wars costume for "May the Fourth Be With You" (on Saturday, May 4) and "Revenge of the Fifth" (on Sunday, May 5)
While May the Fourth is a special day in my own household, complete with ongoing presentations of episodes four through six, I applaud the Mud Hens for honoring a very important part of American, nay, Galactic film history.
The release mentions the team will wear special "Chewbacca" uniforms, which you can see below.
While the uniforms are a little rough on the eyes, they are hardly worse than anything the Padres have dreamed up for actual MLB games.
Also, consider that this could have been far worse. They could have gone with Gungan night, mandating Jar Jar bobbleheads, which would have no doubt found their way onto the field.
Wookie uniforms will hardly be the end of the Star Wars mania that will hit Toledo. The team has much more in store for their lucky fans.
- Kazoo giveaway (first 3,000 fans) for postgame Kazoo-Along to Star Wars music
- Appearances by Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion, including Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Storm Troopers, and X-Wing Pilots
- Star Wars themed face painting opportunities
- Star Wars costume photo booth
Let me stop here and encourage anyone in the area to run (not walk) to the stadium for these tickets.
I have been to enough conventions to know that there is something rather rewarding and hilarious about superfans in cosplay going about their daily activities as if all were quite ordinary.
Watching Obi-Wan Kenobi try to work one of those relish dispensers for his hot dog, Darth Vader waiting in line for the trough or Han Solo chugging beers with a Greedo are all bucket-list items.
The release continues:
- Star Wars-themed food and beverage items, including Yoda Soda, Darth Chocolate Brownie Sundae, and MORE
- Star Wars sound effects and music throughout the game
- Star Wars-themed postgame fireworks (Saturday only)
- Much, much more
The best part is the "Much, much more" that ends the press release. I will just assume they are referring to an actual pod race and be all the more happy about this Star Wars soiree.
I have never been more jealous of Mud Hens fans. More so because the team wisely opted against a Slave Leia uniform, which really would have made playing the game rather awkward for the players.
