The NFL draft is easily one of the biggest events on the league calendar as fans from across the country and the world tune in to see whom their teams will select. The first round starts Thursday at 8 p.m. ET, but there will be plenty of action throughout the weekend.

A total of 254 picks will be made this year, spread across seven rounds and three days. While more attention with likely be paid to pick No. 1 than pick No. 254, each and every selection is of the utmost importance.

With the action starting in a matter of hours, this is the team-by-team listing for each round of the 2013 NFL draft, as well as a more in-depth look at three top prospects.

Top Prospects

Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia

The best quarterback in the 2013 NFL draft is former West Virginia star Geno Smith, and where he lands on draft day will be one of the biggest storylines of the event.

While there are some experts that don’t believe he will be drafted in the first round, most believe that Smith will be selected on Thursday, possibly even in the top 10.

Smith has the strength and accuracy to be a franchise quarterback in the NFL, and coupled with his mobility, there is little doubt that an organization picking high in the first round will snag the prospect.

Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M

The best offensive lineman in this 2013 draft class is Texas A&M offensive tackle Luke Joeckel, and with a need for a long-term replacement at that position, the Kansas City Chiefs will likely look to take the prospect with the No. 1 overall pick.

It’s good to see the big guys fighting in the trenches get some love too.

Joeckel has the elite size and strength needed to become a franchise left tackle in the NFL, but his raw quickness and elite football intelligence make him a perfect No. 1 pick.

No matter where he ends up being drafted, Joeckel will be a bona fide stud.

Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama

While there are plenty of defensive players getting attention from NFL franchises in the first round, the most talked about cornerback prospect in the 2013 class is Alabama’s Dee Milliner.

There is little doubt that a talented player like Milliner won’t make it out of the top 10.

Milliner has the mixture of size, speed and strength needed to play in the secondary at the next level, but it is the cornerback’s ability to find the ball in the air and get involved in almost every play that makes him such a promising pick.

There are some concerns about an injury to his shoulder, but the short-term risks associated with Milliner do not outweigh the long-term reward of drafting a future shutdown corner.
