On a clubhouse television, the image of the next Mets ace glimmered on a highlight reel. At a corner locker in his new home, R.A. Dickey watched Matt Harvey, his successor as the anchor of the Mets staff, blaze fastballs past the Washington Nationals. He smiled as the hitters flailed at the elevated heat. “See how high that is?” Dickey said as he laced his New Balance sneakers, preparing for treatment by Blue Jays trainers on his sore back and neck. “Doc Gooden was great at that, back in the day.”
