SANTA CLARA -- Trent Baalke is weighing a vague "pool of players" for the 49ers' first-round draft pick Thursday night. That serves in stark contrast to last year, when the upstart general manager spied a particular player, even sliding that prospect's name -- wide receiver A.J. Jenkins -- into a sealed envelope before the draft. Jenkins indeed became their pick at No. 30 overall, and although he didn't catch a single pass his rookie season, the already stocked 49ers went on to reach the Super Bowl.
