Martin Mayhew Doesn't Dismiss Drafting a Guard at No. 5

On Thursday, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported the Detroit Lions were seriously considering taking an offensive guard with the No. 5 pick in the first round of the upcoming NFL draft. Despite the fact that a guard hasn't been drafted in the top 10 since 1997, or in the first five picks since the Baltimore Colts selected Ken Huff third in 1975, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew wouldn't dismiss that the top prospects at the position, Alabama's Chance Warmack and North Carolina's Jonathan Cooper, are in play at No. 5 this year.
