The Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team will honor the city of Boston by wearing a decal during Saturday's annual spring game.

ESPN college football reporter Brett McMurphy broke the news on Friday:

This gesture is in tribute to the city that unfortunately endured the tragic bombing at the Boston Marathon this past Monday, in which three were killed and approximately 180 others were injured, per CNN.

As Chip Patterson of CBS Sports points out, this will likely be the first of several similar acts by college football programs across the country this weekend.

The University of Massachusetts will be sporting a similar decal and creating a new marathon "finish line" for those who competed in the renowned race. More information can be found for that specific event at the Minutemen's official athletics website.

With the high profile that the Notre Dame football program carries, the Irish are using their massive platform to reach out to Boston, which is an admirable act that will certainly garner universal praise.

When Notre Dame takes the field with the specially designed decals, it will make for a moving atmosphere around the game in South Bend. It will also assist in keeping the victims of the tragedy in the hearts and minds of both the spectators and players involved in the gridiron showcase.

Amidst the mayhem occurring in Boston, the classy move by Notre Dame to pay tribute should only key more outpouring of support for the city in the coming days.
