Sean SmithAnalyst IApril 19, 2013

Benson Henderson is already on the verge of making history. With a win over Gilbert Melendez at UFC on Fox 7, Henderson will tie the UFC lightweight record for consecutive title defenses.

After a long reign as Strikeforce lightweight champion, Melendez will be making his Octagon debut in Saturday's main event. The bout will give Melendez a chance to prove he's been worthy of receiving recognition as being one of the best 155-pound fighters in the world.

Daniel Cormier will also be making his way over to the UFC from Strikeforce, having gone undefeated in his first 11 MMA fights. Former UFC champion Frank Mir will welcome Cormier to the Octagon and will be aiming to return to title contention with a win over the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion.

Additionally, Nate Diaz will try to bounce back after losing in a title fight against Henderson. Diaz's opponent will be a fighter in a similar situation. Josh Thomson will make his UFC debut after losing to Melendez in a Strikeforce championship bout his last time out.

Saturday's event will take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. On Friday, the fighters will hit the scales at 7 p.m. ET. Video of the weigh-ins will be streamed live on the above video player.
