The highlight of the first wave of information on FIFA 14 is the new ball physics feature. EA Canada is obviously aiming to further increase the realism in the ever-popular series.

Per, the new Pure Shot and Real Ball Physics features are married in hopes of taking the gameplay to the next level. Pure Shot incorporates timing, anticipation and positioning to produce the most realistic shot opportunities.

By involving three elements into each shot, off-balance attempts and other real-life events are possible.

To take things a step further, the Real Ball Physics should take over after the player strikes the ball to produce the most realistic flight and bounce of the virtual ball in the series history.

Here are a few videos that demonstrate the new features in action:

The videos show several different shot types. You can follow the flight of the ball and immediately notice the differences.

Once players get the hang of how to set these different shots up, they will be able to tailor their approach to the ball.

With these tools mastered, gamers will be ready to pull off simply masterful touch shots, or powerful blasts, depending on which is most suitable for the situation.

The ball physics are probably the biggest addition, but personally I appreciate the Protect the Ball initiative. As a gamer who suffers from PBS Syndrome (Poor Ball Security), I was delighted to see the development of a tool to help me with my problem.

Protect the Ball is expected to enable players to fend off and block opponents from the ball while running at any speed.

Now, when a ball carrier is being pulled while advancing, they will be able to counter this by stepping in front of the defender and using their body to shield the ball. With the ball at their feet, players will be able to step into the opposition and hold them off to maintain possession and make a pass.

I need this is in my life.

This will be one of the first features I test when I am fortunate enough to get my hands on a copy of the game.

Also new to the series this year will be a new Team Intelligence feature designed to improve the A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) of your virtual teammates. There is also a new scouting feature called Global Scouting Network set to enhance the career mode.

Gamers will be able to evaluate players in several categories as they assess who can improve their clubs.

By the time the game releases, there will likely be a bevy of new features announced. As of now, there is already reason for a little excitement.
