Officially, he is the Spanish No. 1, but David Ferrer might be having trouble looking his friend Rafael Nadal in the eye when that comes up. Had Ferrer not pulled out of this week's event in Monte Carlo with injury, he would have been the tournament's third seed -- ahead of Nadal, an eight-time champion in Monte Carlo who defeated Ferrer 6-0, 6-2 in their most recent clay-court meeting earlier this year.
