Magic fans winced Sunday as news broke that Marcin Gortat told a Polish newspaper that his coach's bench behavior was not good for the team.
"He's got some behavior that is not good for us," Gortat said. "With his gestures, he makes us nervous on the floor".
Gortat also added that he wasn't getting any plays called for him, and predicted that either he or Hedo Turkoglu would be traded next season. As word started circulating that the Magic center blasted Van Gundy, Gortat quickly defended himself, saying that the article was written three months ago, and denied the quote completely.
"I don't know anything about this", Gortat told reporters. "Thanks to coach Van Gundy, he's made my dreams come true. He made my name and I'm happy I can play for him. I don't have any reason to do anything stupid".
"I'm not going to spend much time worrying about it," Van Gundy told the Orlando Sentinel. I talked to Marcin about it. I didn't like what he said, but I try to judge everybody by the total package, of what I know of them".
Tonight the Magic play the Philadelphia 76ers at home. They will try to even the series. Yesterday Magic center Dwight Howard was named the 2009 NBA Defensive Player of the Year and will receive his trophy on home court tonight.
