NEW YORK — Adam Jones stood at the lip of the warning track in dead center field and stared at the ground. A Gold Glove outfielder, Jones had just committed a blunder both embarrassing and costly for the Orioles in a 5-2 Yankees victory last night at Yankee Stadium. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Vernon Wells lifted a long fly ball that seemed destined for Jones’ glove for the final out of the inning. When it landed there, comfortably, to stay, it would maintain a 2-2 tie.
