Alternative WWE Title Designs Revealed

0 of 4

On the Feb. 18 edition of Monday Night Raw, the Rock unveiled the newest version of the WWE Championship. This was the first design in nearly eight years, as John Cena debuted the "Spinner Belt" shortly after he won his first world title at WrestleMania 21 from JBL.

The idea of a new championship has been speculated for quite some time, as designs of the main plate have been leaked on the Internet since last year.

Although the design that is now held by John Cena is the finished product, WWE.com recently revealed some alternative designs that could have made the cut instead.

    Here are the alternative designs.

Design #1: Red Strap, Round Center

From this picture, it appears as if the WWE Championship had a chance to go back to the Attitude Era days, having the full design inside the round center of the title. The design lasted from the late '90s until the undisputed title came in 2002.

This could have been the best version of the new title, minus the red strap. It seems as if that would have been a bit too much.

Design #2: Extended Plate, Shield-Like Center

This version of the WWE Championship appears to have a shield-like center, with flames coming from the center plate to substitute for the actual side plates. The strap looks a bit thin, with the intention to focus heavily on the main design.

It doesn't seem as if this title would have been a good alternative. Maybe if they would have held out until someone from The Shield won the spinner belt, it may have worked.

Design #3: Elevated Strap, Square Center

This design looks very nice, and may have worked. The elevated strap to fit the side design looks good, and the center plate has a diamond-studded square outside of the WWE logo.

Although it is an innovative design, it does take away from all elements of the traditional championship. There is nothing on the belt that depicts a world, which should always be on every version of the title.

The side designs are decent, but if it was replaced for a globe on each side, it would have been the best version.

Design #4: Retro Eagle

This version of the WWE Championship looks decent. It brings back the retro eagle inclusion that was on the version of the better part of the 90s, held by the likes of Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and Steve Austin. The eagle also appeared on the Attitude Era version, as well as on the top of the Undisputed Title.

Although it looks like a very creative design, the fact that it looks wide and has no side plates is a turn off. This belt does not represent the best option of a world title to me, although it is much better than the spinner belt.
