Chicago Cubs Come Back in Bottom of the Ninth to Beat San Francisco Giants
The Giants scored three runs in the top of the ninth as the Cubs bullpen continues to struggle.
Pablo Sandoval hit an RBI single early in the top half of the inning before Brandon Belt had a two-run double to give the Giants the lead.
But, a Dioner Navarro home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth, tied the game at 3-3, before David DeJesus singled with two outs to set up Castro's heroics.
DeJesus and Castro each hit home runs earlier in the game as well for the Cubs.
It was an awesome game to watch and one worth the price of admission.
STARLIN CASTRO RBI DOUBLE TO SCORE DEJESUS!!!!
In the words of the immortal Harry Caray..."CUBS WIN, CUBS WIN!"
And that my friends is how baseball works.
DeJesus singles with two outs. That's his third hit of the game.
Could today's game be his turnaround?
A second-straight strikeout for Romo.
He's in the zone now. Too bad he wasn't in the zone against Navarro.
DIONER NAVARRO WITH A PINCH-HIT HOME RUN TO TIE THE GAME!!!!!
Just as soon as I say that about Romo, too.
From closers who don't know how to do their job to Sergio Romo, who is one of the best at his job.
They should just start putting cubs games on Comedy Central— Anthony Chierici (@AnthonyChierici) April 12, 2013
In all seriousness, the Cubs need to get this figured out.
Blanco grounds out to end the inning, but what an inning from the Giants.
That's why they're the defending world champs and the Cubs have gone the longest without winning a title.
I said it once and I'll say it again...why take Villaneuva out of the game?
He was pitching good.
BRANDON BELT TWO-RUN DOUBLE PLATES ARIAS AND PENCE.
GIANTS NOW LEAD 3-2.
Posey out at second on a fielder's choice. That could've been two, but the Giants still have life.
Posey hit by a pitch. Way to take one for the team.
Joaquin Arias, who was pinch-running for Sandoval, moves to second.
And, Cubs fans continue to shake their heads.
Posey up...Time to earn that paycheck.
PABLO SANDOVAL RBI SINGLE SCORES SCUTARO!!!
LEAD CUT IN HALF TO 2-1.
And all Cub fans collectively drop their heads saying, "Not again!"
A double by Scutaro gives life for the Giants.
If somehow Sandoval or Posey gets on base, I think the Giants pull this one out.
Scutaro and Sandoval are combined 0-for-6 today and are the last hopes for the Giants.
Pagan flies out for the first out of the inning.
So far, so good.
No Carlos Marmol sighting, yet.
This is the one area the Cubs always seem to struggle in.
Cubs were seventh last year with 21.
fasten those seat belts! To the ninth inning we go with the Cubs up 2-0. Fujikawa time!— CubsHub.com (@cubshub) April 12, 2013
Kontos gets the strikeout to end the inning.
He came in and did what he was supposed to do. Now it's time to see if the top of the order can get on base for the Giants.
Schierholtz flies out for the second out of the inning.
As of note, it will be the top of the order due up for the Giants.
Soriano strikes out for the first out of the eighth.
That is now his second strikeout of the game.
