The Phoenix Suns are finishing up one of the worst seasons in franchise history and have seemingly been playing for the draft all season long.
Instead, the Suns could have up to four picks in the upcoming draft, including three Round 1 selections.
The first of those picks figures to be a somewhere in the top five selections.
The second of those picks is by way of the Los Angeles Lakers, which has some interesting protection.
Phoenix will get the pick if LA misses the playoffs, if they make the playoffs then the Suns will get the Miami Heat's first-round pick instead.
The third of those picks comes from the Minnesota Timberwolves, which also has some complicated stipulations.
Phoenix will get Minnesota's first-round pick if the Timberwolves pick is not in the lottery (Top-13 protection). However, if Minnesota does not make the playoffs (which they won't), Phoenix gets the less favorable of Minnesota's first-rounder and Memphis's top-14 protected first-round selection.
This means Phoenix will get Memphis' pick in the upcoming draft since it is the least favorable pick between the two and will fall outside of it's top-14 protection.
The fourth of those picks is the second-round pick from the Denver Nuggets, which also has protection.
Phoenix will receive Denver's second-round pick if it does not fall in the first 40 picks of the draft.
Denver currently has the fourth best record in the league so that pick will not fall in the first 40 picks and will be headed to Phoenix this year.
All in all, the 2013 draft should be a fun and busy time for the Phoenix Suns.
