Game Recap

The Lake Erie Monsters fans took yet another arrow to the heart, Wednesday evening, at Quicken Loans Arena, this time watching their Monsters lose at home to the Houston Aeros, 2-0.

In a hard hitting defensive struggle, Houston opened up a 1-0 lead on a five-on-three goal less than seven minutes into the first period.  Ryan Hamilton was credited with the goal, and assists registered to Jon Awe and Serge Payer.

The goal looked like it might be the icing on the cake as neither team really got much going offensively all night.  For the game, the Monsters had twenty five shots on goal to the Aeros twenty four.  The scoreless drought went for forty plus minutes, as the first period closed 1-0 and the second period yielded no movement on the scoreboard.

Even through much of the third, the theme of the day was hard hitting and defense.  It looked like it might come down to Cleveland’s Tyler Weiman being pulled from net with a minute left for a chance to even up the game, but Houston didn’t allow it to get to that.

They took the wind out of the Monsters’ sails with just over three minutes left in the game as Joel Ward claimed the unassisted goal.

The Monsters take on the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.  Friday, as always is Dollar Dog and Dollar Pepsi night.  Josh Cribbs, the Cleveland Browns kick returner- extraordinaire will be in the house signing autographs prior to game time as well.

Only three home games remain in the season.  If you haven’t checked out the Monsters yet and were hoping to, you’d better get you butts off the couch and head on down.  In a family type fan friendly atmosphere, you won’t be sorry you went.
