Five points behind United, and a 2-1 deficit to overturn against Fenerbahce in the Champions League, but can Chelsea still win anything?

Avram Grant (pictured above) has yet to win over the fans and critics alike, but with a crucial win against Arsenal he has at least bought himself some room to manoeuvre.

With Chelsea's impressive home record they should be able to make their way past Fenerbahce and have a great chance of beating United.

But with a difficult away game against Everton, who will be looking for revenge for the Carling Cup semi-final defeat, Chelsea will be over the moon if they are within three points before the Stamford Bridge game.

United have the three best players in Europe at the moment. Cristiano Ronaldo clearly is exceptional but they have still lost when he's played, Wayne Rooney is a key man for them. With him in the side they simply don't lose and the way R&R compliment each other they are a match for any defense.

Talking of defense, the other top player is Rio Ferdinand; against Roma he was simply awesome, he has everything!

You may notice I have a soft spot for United but they may lose out if any of these three get injured for the crucial games this season.

Bring on Saturday!

  1. The answer is no. Chelsea won't win anything this year and it'll be their first season without silverware for 4 years. United will win the league again and possibly the CL. And if they don't win the CL then someone else will, but it won't be Chelsea.

  2. The league is most definetely out of reach. Our best bet on United dropping points will Arsenal's visit to Old Trafford. EVEN if they beat the odds and come away with the win and we eventually beat United at the bridge, we STILL need them to drop further points else since we're well behind on goal difference. So Chelsea for the league is highly unlikely.
The CL! Well just because we lost the game last night doesn't mean we're out of it. If we get through this round and i think we will. I hope we get Liverpool!! Revenge springs to mind and i'm sure we can defeat either Liverpool or Arsenal.
All this is hypothetical though and none of it might actually happen. As long as things are still mathematically possible i still hold hope !!

  3. I don't think you can count Chelsea out of the Champions League at this stage. The Prem is Uniteds to lose, so it is unlikely they will make a strong challenge, but the CL is different.

I would still back them to beat Fener at home, Chelsea's home record is still immense, and they should have won last night on the balance of play and chances.

Should they manage to get past Fener, which of course will not be easy, then their will be a titanic tie with Liverpool or Arsenal. Now Chelsea definitely hold a psychological advantage over the gooners, they know Arsenal cannot cope with Drogba, and Arsenal have only beaten Chelsea once in their last 12 meetings. Definitely advantage Chelsea.

If they meet Liverpool, then you have to say the psychological advantage would be Liverpool's, given the three previous semi final wins for the reds (2 CL, 1 FA Cup), but I would also say that surely Chelsea would be 'due' to knock Liverpool out, even if it took a flukey win or favourable decision to do so.

Then in a final, whether it be versus United, Barca or whoever, anything could happen.

So while Chelsea may not win anything this season, you cannot write them out of the CL equation just yet.

  4. I can see United dropping 6 points, what I find even more unlikely is that Chelsea will take maximum points till the end of the season. Nice to see that everyone still thinks Chelsea have a chance in the CL but I don't see how anyone can look past Liverpool. I hate them with all my heart and I fear that if we get Liverpool meet and get knocked out in the Semi's that I might do something regrettable. Something like hiring an hitman to assasinate Rafa.

First they have to get past Arsenal and to be honest I really think they have a chance to do Liverpool at home, sadly I can't watch it as I'll be watching the Fener game which could be a close one.

Interesting thing a journo mentioned on Sunday Supplement was that Grant may be Benitez's undoing as he has no idea what Grant's planning, I wonder if Grant know himself sometimes.

"Arsenal have only beaten Chelsea once in their last 12 meetings." yeah and sadly i was there stood amoungst my gooner mates, the smug gits, they all went into hiding before the game at the Bridge, I wonder why.

It's clear that they don't have a defender to deal with Drogba, hilariously the best performance I've seen against him was Titus Bramble. ha ha just saying that makes me laugh but he was immense, faster and stronger than Didier.

Now it's all about tomorrow and who will drop points
