WWE: 5 Potential Teams That Could Dethrone The Shield Moving Forward

It's no secret that The Shield has been on an absolute tear since joining the WWE late last year.

They've taken down different combinations of the top superstars in the WWE, which is a list that includes John Cena, Ryback, Sheamus, Chris Jericho, Kane, Daniel Bryan and even 3MB!

The question that is now on everyone's mind is which team will eventually be the first team to dethrone The Shield and hand them their first loss.

There are not many teams that possess the capabilities to do so. However, featured on this list are five different combinations of superstars that possess the talent to do just that...and win one for injustice!

In an effort to freshen things up, I did my best to not include any superstars The Shield has faced in the past, making only one exception.

5. Kassius Ohno, Leo Kruger and Adrian Neville

Wait, this sounds like a very familiar concept.

Combining three of the top NXT superstars and watching them as they develop into a superteam—where have I heard that before?

Oh yeah, that's right. There's a dominant stable out there known as The Shield!

Following in their footsteps, arguably three of the top superstars in NXT right now could come together and attempt to be the first trio to dethrone The Shield.

Playing the role of babyfaces, it's hard to believe the WWE Universe would not back this team of rookie underdogs in a heartbeat.

As an added incentive, they can even claim that they come to the WWE to fight for justice against The Shield. That would definitely initiate a rivalry between the two teams.

4. Dolph Ziggler, Big E Langston and Antonio Cesaro

Yes, I know. There are two heel teams involved here. Personally, I've never understood why heels don't face each other more often. I know the reason is because those matches wouldn't draw the biggest crowds. However, it would make the WWE product seem just a little bit more realistic.

However, since that most likely would never happen, perhaps the trio of Ziggler, Langston and Cesaro could turn face—if only for this match. It's hard to see The Shield turning face as they are nearly perfect as heels, but that is another possibility.

All I know is that this would be a fun matchup to watch, regardless of the circumstances.

Not too many superstars can match the strength of Roman Reigns, but Langston undoubtedly can.

Meanwhile, Ziggler and Cesaro are both very skilled wrestlers, meaning that they can easily match the talent levels of Ambrose and Rollins.

This feud could start with The Shield interfering in the Triple Threat match between Ziggler, Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger at Extreme Rules. While their purpose may be to beat down Del Rio, they can accidentally hit Ziggler and knock him out cold, eventually costing him the match and his title.

Similarly, the same can happen during any match that Cesaro is in, sparking a battle between the six men during the upcoming weeks and eventually leading to a match at an upcoming pay-per-view.

Yes, I am aware that this does not sound like a great possibility, but it would definitely be a fun match to watch. 

At the very least, it would be something new!

3. Alberto Del Rio, Wade Barrett and Titus O'Neil

I know what you may be thinking...how did you come up with this very odd trio?

Well, Del Rio was the easiest choice for this team. He's currently one of the top faces in the WWE, is in the midst of a great run and has not been involved in any way with The Shield. The fact that he has not been involved with The Shield yet would provide the fans with something fresh instead of The Shield constantly battling with Team Hell No, Ryback and John Cena.

In my opinion, I believe that Barrett would make a great face in the WWE. Many will argue that he is much better off as a heel. However, a change of character would be refreshing for his career. He could develop a no-nonsense type of attitude and pride himself on fighting hard and fair, just like he did back during his street fighting days in Europe. 

O'Neil is another wrestler who I believe would make a great face. He's very confident, loves to have fun and is very entertaining, even as a heel. In addition, he possesses a great body and, if given the opportunity, could potentially become a top star in the WWE.

This trio of superstars would undoubtedly make for a very interesting team to say the least. The goofiness would be amusing and their cohesion and interaction with one another would be very entertaining to watch develop.

The fact that they'd be feuding with The Shield would make things that much more interesting!  

2. Brock Lesnar, CM Punk and Mark Henry

Yes, yet another scenario where two heel teams would face off against one another!

In my opinion, I don't think the fans would mind. Pairing up arguably two of the strongest men in WWE history with arguably the greatest pure wrestler in the WWE today would undoubtedly provide the toughest challenge for The Shield to date.

The scenario leading up to this match would be fairly simple as well.

Most fans have been waiting for Paul Heyman to finally pair up Punk and Lesnar with one another. The Shield could feel that this is an unjust act and attack them during a live promo—potentially powerbombing Lesnar through a table to make them look as strong as they ever have.

They then can challenge the duo of Punk and Lesnar to a six-man tag match, allowing them to choose a partner of their choice. Heyman could then go out and recruit Henry to join their team, convincing him that The Shield will most likely attack him next due to his reputation of destroying everyone in his path.

This match would make for an instant classic, and it would be very interesting to see who the crowd would cheer for, and who would come out on top at the end.  

1. The Rock, Triple H and the Undertaker

What a battle for the ages this would be!

Three of the Attitude Era's biggest superstars facing off against what is shaping up to be the greatest stable of all time.

The drama leading up to the match would be so much fun to watch and the reaction from the crowd upon finding out that The Undertaker, Triple H and The Rock are teaming up would have the potential to be legendary.

This storyline could develop as the rivalry between The Undertaker and The Shield continues. Triple H could get involved in an effort to avenge the near attack made on him by The Shield in mid-April. 

The two can then continue to feud with the trio of young superstars, putting up a good battle every time but coming up short as the numbers game gets the best of them.

That is, until The Rock decides to get revenge on The Shield for their attacks on him earlier in the year.

A match can then be announced for an upcoming pay-per-view between the three Attitude Era superstars and the three potential future WWE champions.
