In one of the most shocking outcomes of WWE’s 2013 WrestleMania, Fandango stunned Chris Jericho in his debut match by beating the former champion via a roll-up pin.
Fandango and Jericho have been engaged in a feud over the last several weeks based on Y2J’s inability and unwillingness to say his opponent’s name correctly. The duo have attacked each other on Raw in the weeks leading into this show, but it was finally Fandango that got the upper hand.
While the fans were vocal about their distaste for the new superstar at the start of this feud, the stellar in-ring performance from both Fandango and Jericho at WrestleMania proves this was the right move by the WWE.
The rub the fresh face has received gives him a head start to a very promising WWE career, and the victory he needs to catapult himself onto the casual wrestling fan's radar.
As great as this victory was for Fandango, it was clear that he stole it from Jericho via roll-up, and that almost always results in a rematch on Raw the following Monday.
Was a win for Fandango the right move?
The card could always use a huge name and bona fide draw like Jericho, and another bout against a blossoming prospect and former NXT winner like Fandango is a great usage of Y2J’s seemingly limitless talents.
Fandango should go on to win at Extreme Rules and get the final upper hand in this battle, but with Jericho taking him under his wing, there is no doubt that the matches between these two men will continue to be excellent.
There is no better way for a future star in the WWE to kick off his career than by getting a win over a future Hall of Famer like Y2J at WrestleMania.
Fandango is being set up to be a star for a long time.
