BALTIMORE – Sunday’s start might rank as the second-most exciting day of Pedro Hernandez’s life. But it will never top the first. That came last July 28, when his wife Jackie gave birth to Bianca, their first child, at 8:30 a.m. The baby was 90 minutes old when the lefthander got a phone call from White Sox General Manager Rick Hahn, telling him he had been traded to the Twins in the Francisco Liriano deal. The trade was disconcerting, but it’s worked out. Hernandez had a strong spring training, allowing no runs in 11 innings, and nearly made the team. But he would have been a reliever, and “I didn’t think he was quite ready for that yet,” manager Ron Gardenhire said.
