Schneider to the Disabled list...
I take an afternoon off and all kinds of things take place, just doing a little house keeping tonight nothing new except my opinion on things.

It looks like the Mets unwillingness to eat Ramon Castro's contract will come back to bite them, I know Castro hit a home run last night but his bat has looked so slow to start the year and now that Schneider down it's only a matter of time before Castro is also down with a sore hamstring or stiff back. The Mets were reported to be actively shopping Castro this off-season because they were concerned with both catchers endurance and while they liked how Schneider handles the pitching staff they wanted a back-up who could stay healthy if Schneider went down.

It's the first week of the season and Schneider is already down, instead of having a guy like Pudge who catches 100 games a season, has a great reputation with pitchers and while he's off to a slow offensive start in Houston has a career BA of .295 they have Castro and Santos. Omir Santos got off to a very good start in spring training and a ended up surpassing Robinson Cancel on the depth chart, the kid did a nice job making contact in a tough situation for your first at bat. As a back-up catcher they play so little I'm not concerned with who it is but with Castro starting it's almost guaranteed the back-up will be a starter at some point......
A few hours after Jerry Manuel said he was “somewhat concerned” about Brian Schneider’s back pain, the Mets showed that they were a little bit more concerned by placing him on the disabled list. Omir Santos was recalled from Class AAA Buffalo to back up Ramon Castro. source NY Times
