Earlier this week, a video surfaced showing Rutgers men's basketball coach Mike Rice verbally and physically abusing players during practice. Athletic director Tim Pernetti initially defended the decision to just suspend the coach for three games and fine him $50,000, but once the video went public, Rutgers waited less than 24 hours to fire Rice. That happened Wednesday. By Thursday, assistant Jimmy Martelli, who had also hit players, resigned. And on Friday, Pernetti was out, too. But a day before Pernetti's fate was decided, former Rutgers star Ray Rice, now a running back with the Baltimore Ravens, defended the former athletic director.
