The Predators and Columbus Blue Jackets had been jockeying for position in the Western Conference standings for the past few weeks, but the teams took two different approaches to the NHL’s trade deadline. Nashville chose to look to the future, dealing top-line forward Martin Erat for a highly touted prospect. Columbus opted for the here and now, dealing away a couple of talented young players for high-scoring forward Marian Gaborik.
