May 7 - May Match Madness

The Rock vs. John Cena

For the second consecutive year, The Rock and John Cena will main event WrestleMania, but this time, the WWE Championship is on the line. Despite the obvious star power in this bout, fans seem to have a split reaction to the match, as some are excited while others long for something different. Whatever the case, The Rock and Cena should provide everyone with a fantastic atmosphere.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Who Wins?

One of the main gripes that fans seem to have with The Rock vs. Cena and WrestleMania XXIX as a whole is predictability. There is a feeling that since it seems obvious that Cena is going to prevail, the match won't be good, and the entire pay-per-view won't be enjoyable. Fans shouldn't be told how to feel, but saying that it's going to be horrible could be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If people convince themselves that they won't like The Rock vs. Cena ahead of time, then the odds are that they won't like it ultimately. Perhaps last year's match between The Rock and Cena wasn't the greatest technical encounter of all time, but fans are far too hard on it. Both men turned in respectable performances, and the atmosphere surrounding the match was immense. Even if The Rock vs. Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII wasn't one of the greatest matches of all time, it certainly felt like it was.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

With all of that said, it is tough to imagine a scenario in which The Rock wins this match. He is obviously a part-time wrestler with outside ventures to worry about, so it wouldn't be responsible to keep the belt on him over the long haul. The fact that The Rock could potentially wrestle at Extreme Rules makes it slightly more likely that he could beat Cena at 'Mania, but it's still an incredibly long shot at this point.

The entire Ring Rust Radio panel agreed that Cena will get redemption and become the new WWE Champion at WrestleMania XXIX. To spice up the discussion a bit, though, a potential Cena heel turn was brought into the equation. As much as fans would love to see Cena turn heel, we also agreed that it won't happen for the foreseeable future. There simply isn't anyone capable of taking Cena's spot as the top face right now, so he will have to remain status quo.

The Undertaker vs. CM Punk

While The Rock vs. Cena will technically headline WrestleMania XXIX, the match that most fans seem to be excited about is the encounter between The Undertaker and CM Punk. Despite speculation that The Phenom wouldn't compete at this year's WrestleMania, he made his return several weeks ago and has since engaged in a feud with Punk. It has become extremely personal and easily represents the best rivalry ahead of WrestleMania.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Who Wins?

It is no secret that The Undertaker is 20-0 at WrestleMania, so history is obviously on his side in this bout. At the same time, Taker has faced fellow veterans in the form of Triple H and Shawn Michaels at 'Mania over the past four years, so his streak hasn't realistically been in serious jeopardy since WrestleMania XXIV against Edge. Punk is a veteran in his own right, but he is still young enough that beating Taker could help his career.

Punk has really succeeded in making himself hated heading into the match as well due to his disrespectful actions. Following the untimely death of Paul Bearer, Punk interrupted Taker's tribute to his late manager, stole the urn and even dumped its contents onto The Phenom's body. Punk's heat would be absolutely nuclear following a victory over Taker on the big stage, but it certainly isn't expected by any means.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

There are a lot of fans out there who would like to see Punk end Taker's streak. However, the Ring Rust Radio panel agrees that this won't be the year that The Deadman falls at 'Mania. It is very possible that the streak will never end, but if it does, then it will probably represent the final match of Taker's career. With WrestleMania XXX taking place next year and intriguing opponents such as Brock Lesnar, Cena and even The Rock still on the table, it wouldn't make sense for Punk to win.

If nothing else, it will be interesting to see what kinds of tactics that Punk decides to employ in order to end the streak. He has referenced ending the streak by any means necessary, so it is very possible that he will attempt to either get Taker disqualified or counted out. The Undertaker may come close to losing the streak on those grounds, but he will ultimately regain his focus and win the match in memory of Bearer, making him 21-0 at WrestleMania.

Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar and Undercard Matches

The third of WrestleMania XXIX's three main events will feature Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar in a No Holds Barred match. There is also an added stipulation that states that Triple H must retire if he loses to Lesnar. To spice things up even more, Paul Heyman will be in Lesnar's corner, as usual, but Shawn Michaels will accompany Triple H to the ring as well, so there are a lot of possibilities.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Who Wins?

Even though Triple H vs. Lesnar is a SummerSlam rematch, it is the least predictable of the main event matches, so there is a certain amount of excitement surrounding it. Triple H is favored, as he is looking to get revenge for his loss at SummerSlam, but the WWE could always decide to have Lesnar win so that Triple H can take time off. The Game is likely to win; however, it wouldn't be a surprise if Lesnar emerged victorious.

Many scenarios were thrown around on Ring Rust Radio, and while we all picked Triple H to win, Brandon Galvin brought up the possibility of Michaels turning on Triple H and costing him the match. There has been talk about HBK coming out of retirement to face his best friend, but nothing concrete has come of it. If Michaels causes Triple H to lose, though, they could have a match at WrestleMania XXX with Triple H getting back at Michaels and regaining the right to wrestle.

Ring Rust Radio's Take

In addition to the three main events, there are seven other matches on tap as well. The consensus feeling is that Ryback will beat Mark Henry, Fandango will beat Chris Jericho, The Shield will beat Randy Orton, Sheamus and Big Show, and Team Hell No will beat the team of Dolph Ziggler and Big E Langston. The remaining matches aren't quite so certain, however.

We were especially split on the World Heavyweight Championship bout between Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger. Two of us believe that Del Rio will retain while the other two contend that Swagger will prevail. I fell into the latter category, as Del Rio's title run has been stale, and there are already so many other faces slated to win. There has to be a surprise somewhere on the card, and Swagger becoming the new world champion could very well be it.
