In a game between longtime rivals, the Dallas Mavericks traveled to play the Los Angeles Lakers. After Shaquille O'Neal had his number retired, the game began and the rivalry resumed.
With both teams fighting for one spot in the postseason, tensions were high and the need for a win was undeniable.
The Lakers were without Steve Nash, as the two-time MVP sat out with a strained right hamstring and hip. Even still, L.A. attempted to close the .5 game deficit against the Utah Jazz.
The Mavericks, meanwhile, entered the game just 2.0 games behind the Jazz. With Dirk Nowitzki leading the charge, Dallas was in prime position to slim the margin during this game.
