OAKLAND, Calif. — As the Mariners unveiled a lineup of shiny new bats, some of the more forgettable ones from last year played a determining role in this season opener. Last year's sub-.200-hitting regular, Brendan Ryan, was the only guy the Oakland Athletics couldn't get out Monday night and he and No. 8 hitter Dustin Ackley made things happen in a key fifth inning rally. Both used their legs to position themselves to score on a single by oft-injured Franklin Gutierrez for a 2-0 win over the Oakland Athletics on a night ace pitcher Felix Hernandez wasn't asking for much help.
