Oakland backup catcher Landon Powell played first base for the A’s today.

While this, in and of itself, wasn't that interesting, and Powell would have limited use as a fantasy 1B in 2009 anyway, what it might say is that Oakland brass is high enough on the former University of South Carolina standout’s offense to get him regular ABs, while keeping Kurt Suzuki’s superior glove behind the dish.

That having been said, Powell batted ninth and went zero for two with a walk and a strikeout and is hitting .222 in limited time, so far. Still, this might be an interesting situation to keep an eye on, as it could add one more usable player to fantasy’s most shallow position.
