He played high school football at Aurora Christian in Sandwich, Ill. His coach was the most famous alum from Cadron State, Don Bebe, who was a star wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills. At 6'6" and 318 pounds, no Division I school wanted Garrett Gilkey.
Gilkey followed Bebe's path to Chadron State and now is primed and ready for his NFL career. The big offensive tackle will probably move to the guard position in the NFL. But, just putting on an NFL uniform will be a dream come true for the small-town guy with a huge heart.
Oh, by the way, the other big Chadron State alum who made a mark in the NFL? None other than the undrafted free agent Danny Woodhead.
We caught up with Gilkey working out at IMG in Bradenton, Fla.
Where will Garrett Gilkey go in the 2013 NFL draft? Let us know in the comments below if you think he'll shine in the NFL.
