Liverpool 2 (Henderson, Gerrard pen)
MOTM: Steven Gerrard
Liverpool have just about taken the three points here after a very back-and-forth game. Neither side really maintained consistent control of the match, though the away side certainly had far more of the good chances in the match.
Suarez had multiple chances to score, Johnson hit the post and Coutinho steered an effort just wide, but after Benteke's opening goal of the game, a good strike from 20 yards, it was midfield duo Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard who won the points for the Reds.
Henderson finished brilliantly after Coutinho's fine through-pass, then Gerrard buried a penalty which was won by Suarez.
A disallowed goal for Villa in the third minute of stoppage time added drama, but Liverpool just about deserved the three points overall.

Aston Villa 1 Liverpool 2
Villa think they've stolen a point, but Benteke is a good three or four yards offside. Jose Enrique's mad attempt at a clearance is headed back into the area and drops to the striker, who powers a strike past Reina, but he is clearly offside and flagged as such.
GOAL FOR VILLA....DISALLOWED FOR OFFSIDE!
90+2'—Final 60 seconds. Jose Enrique spoons a clearance up into the air from a free kick...
90+1'—Yellow card now for Westwood who goes in with his studs up into Henderson's knee. Another Liverpool free kick, another minute gone for Villa.
Three minutes of added time to be played
89'—Agger heads clear an N'Zogbia cross and then Sterling holds off the Villa winger until he fouls him. Liverpool can clear the ball again, and we'll be just about into stoppage time.
87'—Delph commits another foul on Suarez, and Liverpool have another free kick in the Villa half. It's not in a dangerous area, but it's not helping Villa and they are fast running out of time. There won't be too much time added on either, judging by what we've had happen in the second half.
85'—Suarez twists and turns over on the left side with Downing waiting in the middle, but overworks the ball and it's out for a goal kick. Five minutes left for Villa to find an equaliser, or for Liverpool to hold out.
82'—Sterling almost finds himself released into the area from a Suarez pass but Vlaar does well to cut it out. Moments later Suarez is in the area and dribbles past two defenders...round the keeper...but just can't get it out his feet and after Guzan got a hand to the initial ball, he manages to save Suarez's tired-looking chip shot.
80'—Carragher does well to fend off Agbonlahor and slides the ball behind for a corner. Liverpool clear the ball to the far side and win the throw. Into the last 10 minutes now.
79'—Suarez dribbles past Delph who bowls him over to the ground; free kick to Liverpool which Downing will lift into the penalty area...in fact he shoots. And the ball ends up about 20 rows up, and about 30 seats wide of the near post. Awful delivery.
78'—Suarez reverse passes to Sterling who has his first chance to run at the defence, and he makes space for a cross toward the near post, but Guzan is able to take it out of the air.
Liverpool sub: Coutinho off, Raheem Sterling on
76'—Now it's Liverpool's turn for some extended possession, but Coutinho's pass to Jose Enrique sees the ball run out of play.
Villa sub: Sylla off, El Ahmadi on
74'—Villa probing left and right in midfield, but Liverpool working hard in the centre. The home team need a bit of pace or inspiration to get around this block of four and five that the Reds have through the middle.
72'—Into the final 20 minutes of the game now and no sign of a Liverpool substitution yet, but Villa are readying their third and final change.
70'—Liverpool trying to regain some possession and work their way back up the field, but the back-four is sitting rather deep again rather than squeezing play higher. It's allowing Villa to ping the ball straight back into the Reds' defensive third when they win in back.
68'—Lowton lofts what appears to be a cross into the six yard box but it's way past Benteke...and forces Reina into a backwards dive to tip it out from underneath the crossbar!
65'—GOAL-SAVING CLEARANCE OFF THE LINE! Steven Gerrard is back in superman mode. After scoring a penalty at the other end, he stops his team conceding a second by diving backwards through the air into his own net and heading a goalbound-header from Benteke off the line. Magnificent stop by the captain.
63'—Benteke and Johnson go head to head after a shoulder charge by the touchline, and the referee indicates a very soft free kick for Villa. Delph gets a shot in on the volley from the set piece, which is deflected wide.
61'—GREAT CHANCE! Should have been 2-2. A cross from the right finds Weimann utterly unmarked in the centre of the six yard box after he escaped Agger, but he scoops his shot well over the crossbar. He should have scored.
Villa subs: Bannan and Weimann off, Delph and N'Zogbia on.
Suarez bursts into the area down the right, sees Baker coming a mile off, and reverse-nutmegs the defender who goes flying in to a silly tackle—takes out Suarez, stonewall penalty. Gerrard steps up and buries the effort low inside Guzan's right-hand post, 2-1 to Liverpool.
