Mets' Daniel Murphy Makes Successful Grapefruit League Debut

As soon as the ball jumped off Lucas Duda’s bat, Daniel Murphy did as his instincts and baseball IQ dictated. He jogged back to first base, timed the ball landing in the center fielder’s glove and made a mad dash to second base. As he approached the bag, he went into a headfirst slide, which ended more like a belly flop, to beat the throw. Murphy emerged from the cloud of dust, asked for time and looked over at first base coach Tom Goodwin.
