The 28-year-old middle-order batsman is understood to be in a coma with a fractured skull, a punctured lung, internal bleeding and is in intensive care at a Christchurch hospital. His family are at his bedside. A spokesman for the ambulance service that transported Ryder to hospital said he had suffered "very serious head injuries".
