New York Yankees Win Final Home Opener

The New York Yankees won their final home opener at Yankee Stadium last night.

This was a very historical moment in Yankees history.  It's also good way to start off the season on the right foot.  The Yankees have now left a legacy at Yankee stadium for winning their last home opener.

What a way to start off the season, Joe Girardi's first win as the Yankees new manager.

Yankee pitcher Chien-Ming Wang pitched seven very good inings.  He threw a strong seven innings, picking up a win in his first start of the season.

Wang gave up only six hits and two earned runs, while walking two and striking out two.  His ERA to start off the yeaer is now a solid 2.57.

Wang gave everything the Yankees could hope for on opening day, keeping the game close by allowing only two runs.

The Yankees only managed three runs, but Roy Halladay kept the Yankees in order.  Halladay, like Wang, also had a solid opening day start.  The only difference was that he allowed one more run than Wang did.  Both were pretty similar last night pitching.

Three players that stood out last night at the plate were Melky Cabrera, A-Rod, and Bobby Abreu.

Cabrera had an excellent night at the bat and in the outfield.

Cabrera made two very important catches in center field last night.  His two catches probably took away at least two extra base hits.  His performance in the outfield has always been outstanding since coming up with the Yankees two years ago, and he's shown he deserves the starting centerfield job.

At the plate Cabrera went one for three, but that one hit was very important because it was a home run.  He also scored a run along with that.  His home run tied the game at two in the bottom of the sixth.

Overall Cabrera had an very impressive night.

Bobby Abreu had a good night as well going two for four at the plate, and also scoring a run.  A-Rod had a good night as well, going two for three with a run scored and driving in one run to top it off.

Joba Chamberlain came in the eighth and pitched very well, followed by Mariono Rivera closing out the ninth in his typical excellent fashion.

Chamberlain and Rivera are a very good pitching tandem.

The Yankees pitching staff had an very impressive night.  They looked like mid-season form, and sharp.

The Yankees overall had an impressive night, and looked very sharp.

This was a great night for the Yankees, recapping the last home opening win at Yankee Stadium and the first win for new Yankee manager Joe Giradri.
