There's something about Opening Day that feels different than the opening of other professional sports calenders.

Sure, we can be reasonable and admit that a game on April 1 is truly no different than one on June 14.

But where is the fun in that?

Opening Day is a special event marked by parades, pageantry and renewed hope for the upcoming season.

Much like the first two days of March Madness, it's a great day to call in sick, sit back and enjoy the ride.

After all, the great Yogi Berra once said: "A home opener is always exciting whether it's home or on the road."
