Arizona vs. Ohio State: Live Score, Highlights and Sweet 16 Game Reaction
Ohio State beats Arizona, 73-70.
Arizona led for the majority of the first half, but an Ohio State run early in the second half was too much for the Wildcats to overcome.
Seniors stepped up for Arizona down the stretch. Solomon Hill and Mark Lyons both played well, but defensively, the Wildcats could not stop the Buckeyes.
DeShaun Thomas kept the Buckeyes in the game in the first half. He scored 16 points in the first 20 minutes and just four in the second half.
That was, in part, due to LaQuinton Ross' incredible second half. Aside from a go-ahead 25-foot three pointer, Ross scored 14 points down the stretch for Ohio State.
His scoring, plus Aaron Craft's leadership, gave Ohio State the win. They'll play the winner of La Salle and Wichita State on Mar. 30.
Ohio State moves on to play the winner of La Salle and Wichita State in the Elite Eight.
LaQuinton Ross: huge talent whose progression has been key to Buckeyes' run. Kudos to Craft for giving it up, kudos to Ross for clutchitude— Pat Forde (@YahooForde) March 29, 2013
Ross won the game. 'Nuff said.
OSU 73, ARIZ 70 (END OF GAME)
Arizona couldn't get a shot off. Game over.
Ohio State is going to the Elite Eight.
OSU 73, ARIZ 70 (2.1 Second Half)
What the hell are the refs looking at? Arizona is out of timeouts. This is ridiculous.— Andy Glockner (@AndyGlockner) March 29, 2013
Refs going to the monitor to check the clock. That gives Arizona a free timeout, but it's good to get the time right.
OSU 73, ARIZ 70 (2.0 Second Half)
WOW. LaQuinton Ross drains a three. That was 25 feet out. Wow.
OSU 70, ARIZ 70 (21.8 Second Half)
OSU 70, ARIZ 69 (21.8 Second Half)
Mark Lyons is going to the line after taking a hit from LaQuinton Ross. Will he tie the game?
OSU 70, ARIZ 67 (43.0 Second Half)
One timeout left for Thad Matta and Ohio State.
Ohio State can run the clock down to sub-35 seconds. Arizona needs a three regardless of what happens here.
OSU 70, ARIZ 65 (1:18 Second Half)
Questionable foul called there on Arizona. Looked to me like Aaron Craft lost the ball.
OSU 69, ARIZ 65 (1:20 Second Half)
What a move by LaQuinton Ross to save the Buckeyes' possession.
More importantly, though, Aaron Craft just picked up his fourth foul. Arizona is now in the bonus.
OSU 67, ARIZ 63 (1:59 Second Half)
Ohio State have two timeouts remaining.
OSU 67, ARIZ 61 (2:35 Second Half)
Timeout Arizona to keep possession of the ball, but now they're out of timeouts.
Arizona needs to score on this possession. Stops on the other end would be nice as well.
Ohio State is in the double bonus.
OSU 67, ARIZ 61 (3:16 Second Half)
Shots being missed by both sides. Arizona picked a bad time to go cold.
OSU 67, ARIZ 61 (4:52 Second Half)
If Ohio State continues to hit from the line, Arizona is in trouble.
Let's not forget that the Wildcats have four starters with three fouls. Ohio State has one (Aaron Craft).
OSU 65, ARIZ 61 (5:12 Second Half)
We're going down to the wire in Los Angeles.
Mark Lyons looks ready to take over. Make of that what you will, but right now, Lyons is hitting his shots.
OSU 60, ARIZ 54 (7:26 Second Half)
These teams have put in work at the foul stripe.
Ohio State is 19-of-21 from the line, Arizona is 13-of-15.
Ohio State is in the bonus, and if they continue to hit the freebies, have a great shot at staying ahead in this game.
Great second half adjustment by OSU. Shrinking their defense keeping the game in front.— Seth Greenberg (@SethOnHoops) March 29, 2013
Solomon Hill has flipped the script. He's a matchup nightmare for OSU.
OSU 56, ARIZ 52 (7:59 Second Half)
That's nine straight points for Solomon Hill.
Is it a coincidence that Aaron Craft has been on the bench during this Arizona run?
He's set to come back in after the break.
OSU 56, ARIZ 50 (9:08 Second Half)
Solomon Hill is doing his best DeShaun Thomas impression. He's carrying the Wildcats on offense right now.
OSU 53, ARIZ 48 (10:15 Second Half)
Well, that was fast. Solomon Hill has rekindled the fire for Arizona with five straight points.
OSU 50, ARIZ 43 (11:15 Second Half)
Cats just 2-of-11 from the floor in the second half and trail Ohio DState, 50-42, with 11:31 to go in L.A.— Arizona Athletics (@AZATHLETICS) March 29, 2013
Story of the second half.
On the other side, Solomon Hill and Kaleb Tarczewski both have three fouls for Arizona.
Hill has been quiet this game. The Wildcats need their senior leader to step up if they expect to move on to the Elite Eight.
OSU 50, ARIZ 42 (11:31 Second Half)
Aaron Craft's third foul takes us to the under-12 timeout.
That may be Arizona's best way to get back in this game. Without Craft, Ohio State struggled in the first half. Could the Wildcats make another run with Craft on the bench?
OSU 50, ARIZ 42 (11:39 Second Half)
Wild set of events leads to a layup for Shannon Scott.
Sean Miller calls a timeout before the under-12 TV timeout. He's not happy.
