October 27, 2012 is a date that will live in Marcus Lattimore's mind for quite a while.

The South Carolina running back laid motionless on the field at Williams-Brice Stadium as Gamecocks fans were silenced by his gruesome knee injury.

Most thought Lattimore would return to South Carolina in 2013 and get back to health to help raise his draft stock for next season. However, after consulting with NFL running back Willis McGahee, who suffered a similar injury while playing at Miami in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, Lattimore decided to declare for the 2013 draft, as McGahee did in 2003.

Lattimore has been rehabbing with Athletes' Performance and Dr. James Andrews in Gulf Breeze, Florida, where he has been inspired by the near-superhuman healing of Robert Griffin III.

The 21-year-old is on the right track. After his pro day on March 27, applause erupted from the scouts, general managers and coaches looking on. It was the first hurdle on his path to the NFL.

Check out the video above to hear, in his own words, how Lattimore is doing in recovery and what his vision of the future is.
