---End of update---
Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports that the 27-year-old sustained the injury in Sunday night's game against the Vancouver Canucks:
Colorado Avalanche center Paul Stastny will be out about 10 days with a bruised left foot, the team said Monday. Stastny suffered the injury Sunday night against Vancouver, after blocking a slap shot from the Canucks' Jason Garrison.
Stastny had not missed a game previously this season.
Currently last in the Western Conference with six losses in their past seven games, the news could not come at a worse time for the Avalanche.
The Avalanche are scheduled to play four of their next five games away from home, and against teams that could well breeze past them without Stastny. Calgary, Vancouver, Nashville and Detroit await Colorado in the next few days, and the Avs appear unlikely to break their run of poor form with this latest news.
Stastny has scored eight goals and 11 assists for the Avalanche so far this year, but has shown throughout his seven-year NHL career in Colorado that he is very strong player to have on hand. His 134 goals and 259 assists testify to that, with the Avalanche now forced to look to Matt Duchene or Ryan O'Reilly as their starting center for the next few games.
The pair have 15 goals and 28 assists between them in 2013,.
However, even with those adequate replacements, there is no denying that Colorado will sorely miss its star center. Buried in the basement of the Western Conference, Stastny's injury is just the latest bad news as the team's 2012-13 season continues to fall apart.
How big of a loss is Paul Stastny to the Colorado Avalanche?
