Denver Broncos Reportedly Interested in Dwight Freeney and John Abraham

The Denver Broncos are reportedly making a run at veteran pass-rushers Dwight Freeney and John Abraham.

This news comes immediately after the Broncos attempted to bring back Elvis Dumervil, but a strange journeyas NFL.com's Chris Wesseling reported—led to Dumervil inking a deal with the Baltimore Ravens.

This was not something the Broncos were unprepared for.

As NFL.com's Kareem Copeland reported, the Broncos hosted Freeney and Abraham on Thursday as a contingency plan, should Dumervil not return.

The Denver Post's Mike Klis tweeted that Freeney was the Broncos' "first choice."

This notion is backed by this tweet from the NFL Network's Michelle Beisner

Freeney and Abraham are extremely productive veterans. Freeney, 33, has spent all 11 of his NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. He has 107.5 career sacks, including 13.5 over the last two seasons.

Last year, with the Colts switching to the 3-4, Freeney had five sacks in 14 games.

Meanwhile, Abraham is older at 34, but he also has been more productive. In each of his past three seasons—all with the Atlanta Falcons—Abraham has played at least 15 games while tallying at least 9.5 sacks.

He also is coming off a 10-sack season during which he forced six fumbles.

For next season, these players look to have enough left in the tank to help fill the void created by Dumervil's departure. With 37-year-old legend Peyton Manning at the helm, the Broncos need to put all of their efforts into winning next season.
