The men from Netherlands look to extend their lead in World Cup qualifying, with Romania coming into Amsterdam ArenA attempting to grab hold of the group’s second spot.

In their first meeting, the Romanians were defeated by the Netherlands in Bucharest by the tune of 4-1. A win or draw on the road would do wonders for their World Cup chances, as they stand tied with Hungary in total points.

Netherlands, meanwhile, holds a five-point cushion over its group competitors; a home win could all but guarantee advancing to the next qualifying stage.

Tuesday night should be a hard-fought match with many storylines to follow. Read on for matchup details and viewing information.

Netherlands’ Key Player: Robin Van Persie

With Manchester United holding a comfortable EPL lead and his national team making waves in qualifying, it’s good to be Robin Van Persie.

RVP has scored the most international goals of anyone on the Netherlands roster, including a late-game strike against the Romanians in their October qualifying clash.

He’ll look to add to that total this Tuesday as the Manchester United striker continues to rack up goals no matter the uniform. Van Persie has netted 19 in a mere 29 appearances for Manchester United, all the while while continuing that dominance in international play.

Most recently, the Netherlands striker scored the team’s second goal in Friday’s qualifying win over Estonia.

Romania’s Key Player: Adrian Mutu

The Romanian hope for a consistent attack on Tuesdays rests on Mutu, who is merely trying to hold onto his starting spot at 34 years old.

He has used his years of international experience to outsmart defenses during this qualifying period, scoring once in three caps with Romania.

That stretch continues at the Netherlands, where Mutu will need to be in top form with Ciprian Maricia off this Romanian squad with an knee injury (per The Guardian).

He’ll have to be in attack mode for the match’s duration, as the Netherlands' back line has only given up two goals in their past five matches. Mutu has his work cut out for him.

Matchup to Watch: Rafael Van der Vaart vs. Romanian defense

Van der Vaart served as the Romanian’s foil through their first matchup and will continue to do so if they do not key on him in Amsterdam.

In their October meeting, the 30-year old midfielder served a brilliant free kick to Bruno Martins Indi for the team’s second goal, and then knocked in a penalty kick for an encore. Van der Vaart pestered the Romanians' back line throughout with relative ease, a troubling sign for the visitors as they try to earn a better result.

Keep an eye on how Romania tries to keep Van der Vaart in check. If he continues to make plays in the midfield, this match won’t be close.

Prediction: Netherlands 3, Romania 0
