Urban Meyer didn't intend to interrupt your March Madness viewing, but sometimes he just can't help himself.
Thompson held offers from Arkansas, Clemson, Iowa, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennessee and many others, but the Buckeyes beat most of those schools to the punch by offering first.
Thompson is a 6'5", 255-pound strong-side defensive end who has the strength to come off the edge and the speed to go side to side pursuing ball carriers. Those are the traits Meyer looks for in his defensive ends, and he uses that advantage up front to overwhelm opposing offenses.
Since he was hired as head coach of Ohio State in November of 2011, Meyer has recruited defensive linemen very well. The Buckeyes have secured commitments from 11 defensive linemen with Meyer at the helm, highlighted by players like Noah Spence, Adolphus Washington and Joey Bosa.
Building that kind of depth up front is imperative for Meyer, who lost all four starters along his defensive line this year.
With a number of Ohio State's top targets visiting Columbus this weekend, more good news could be on the way.
